THE CHALLENGE

Margie Pearse, author of Teaching Numeracy, recognized that many teachers struggle with incorporating higher order thinking in their math instruction when they are expected to follow a prescribed curriculum.

Her expertise in helping others with this is limited to her zip code or Twitter followers.

Margie Pearse did not want her face to fill the screen in the modules.

Paper Plane

THE SOLUTION

I drove to Pennsylvania from Georgia and met Margie on a university campus to record a series of webinars.

Using the shotgun mic attached to my camera, I was able to capture her voice clearly despite being outside.

All lessons were designed to have three components; the webinar, the challenge to be discussed via a Twitter hashtag, and additional resources that teachers can use immediately in the classroom.

504 compliant training

The development goal for this project was to create engaging learning that evoked higher order thinking of the teachers as we discuss how to evoke the same of our students.

THE RESULTS

Margie was able to connect with teachers worldwide in fostering meaningful discussion regarding the use of math textbooks in the classroom.

She also is providing this eLearning module to her new teacher mentees as useful training for when they enter the workforce.

I created an authentic call-to-action within the module that aligned with an online community and robust discussions.
